How to Update Order Barcodes for WooCommerce Manually
The latest version of Order Barcodes for WooCommerce generates barcode and QR-code images locally on your WordPress site and keeps a cached copy for fast reuse. Updating keeps your order-code workflow current and independent of older delivery methods.
This guide is for customers who purchased the plugin through CodeCanyon and do not see an automatic update in WordPress.
Before you update
Updating replaces the plugin files. Your Order Barcodes settings and WooCommerce orders remain in your WordPress database, but make a normal site backup first if you do not already have one.
You will need:
- Access to the CodeCanyon account that purchased the plugin.
- WordPress administrator access to the site where the plugin is installed.
- PHP 8.1 or later with the PHP GD extension enabled. GD is used to create barcode images locally.
Option 1: Update from the WordPress dashboard
This is the easiest method for most stores.
- Sign in to CodeCanyon and open Downloads.
- Find Order Barcodes for WooCommerce and choose Download. Select the installable WordPress file if CodeCanyon presents multiple download choices.
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Choose the ZIP file you downloaded, then select Install Now.
- If WordPress tells you that the destination folder already exists, choose Replace current with uploaded.
- When WordPress finishes, select Activate Plugin if prompted.
WordPress retains the plugin’s stored settings during this replacement process.
Option 2: Update with hosting File Manager or SFTP
Use this method only if the WordPress dashboard cannot upload the ZIP.
- Download the plugin ZIP from your CodeCanyon Downloads page.
- Keep a copy of the current
wp-content/plugins/pd-orderbarcodesfolder as a quick rollback backup. - Extract the downloaded ZIP on your computer. It contains a
pd-orderbarcodesfolder. - Replace the existing
wp-content/plugins/pd-orderbarcodesfolder on your site with the new folder. - Sign in to WordPress and confirm that PluginDistrict – Order Barcodes is active under Plugins.
Do not change the folder name. WordPress needs the plugin files to remain in pd-orderbarcodes.
Confirm the update worked
- Go to Plugins in WordPress and confirm that Order Barcodes shows the current version.
- Open Order Barcodes in the WordPress admin menu and review your existing settings.
- Open a recent WooCommerce order that should contain a barcode or QR code.
- Check the order page and a new test email or PDF document, if you use those integrations.
- If your site uses a page cache or CDN, clear its cache after updating.
The first request for a particular code may generate and cache its image. After that, the cached local image is used for later views.
If barcode images do not appear
First, make sure the plugin is active and your code-display settings are still enabled. Then ask your hosting provider to confirm that the PHP GD extension is enabled. The current local generator needs GD to create images.
If you still need help, include the WordPress version, WooCommerce version, PHP version, and a screenshot of any visible error when you contact Plugin District.
Need a previous version?
Keep the ZIP file you downloaded until you have tested the update. If a site-specific conflict appears, restore the folder backup you made before updating and contact support with the details above.
